Plastic in the Ocean

YOU Can Make A Difference

What Can We Do To Help?

In the past few decades, plastic use has increased significantly and continues to do so. In fact, plastic production is expected to double by the year 2050. Since humans were the cause of the start of plastic bags and just plastic in general ending up in the ocean and in nature, it is also our job to help prevent it from getting any worse. If we do not do anything to help, the world will just continue to be polluted, and hundreds of animal species will be at risk of going extinct. Here are just a few options of ways to prevent plastic bags ending up in nature:

  • re-use plastic bags
  • use alternative materials such as cloth or paper
  • pick up any plastic bags from the ground and properly dispose of them

Organizations to Help

There are plenty of organizations and groups of people who are making an effort to prevent or help clean up plastic pollution. You can help out too by either joining these organizations or donating money to help support their efforts. Some of these organizations include the Plastic Ocean Foundation, Plastic Pollution Coalition, 5 Gyres, The Plastic Bank, Story of Stuff, Plastic Soup Foundation, One More Generation, the Last Plastic Straw, Surfrider, and more. Many of these organizations are educational and present information to the community by form of video, movie, or announcement about how plastic has an effect in the world.
